On October 3, 2013, at the Delegation of the European Union to Russia, the representatives of EEN-Russia consortium (Gate2RuBIN) had a meeting with Patrick De Smedt, Deputy Head of Unit on SME Access to Markets (that includes the support of the Enterprise Europe Network) at the DG Enterprise and Industry, European Commission. The meeting was also attended by Richard Burger, Science and Technology Counsellor at the Delegation of the European Union to Russia and Mercedes Bonet, Trade Affairs Manager at the Delegation of the European Commission to Russia.

At the meeting, further plans of work within the Enterprise Europe Network were discussed, as well as Russia's participation in "Horizon 2020" - the new Framework Program of the European Union, and the importance of the "integrated approach" to provision of support services to small and medium business in the context of Gate2RuBIN project, in accordance with the EEN standards.

Project coordinator of EEN-Russia – Russian Union of Innovation and Technology Centers –proposed to strengthen the integration of the Russian consortium Gate2RuBIN into EEN by involving at least 5 Russian experts into the EEN Sector Groups in the following areas: biotechnology, IT, medicine and pharmaceutics, microelectronics, nanoelectronics, new materials, intelligent energy and photonics. Another priority discussed was the expansion of links between Russian regional innovation clusters with EU partner clusters through the EEN tools.

The representatives of the European Commission approved the initiative of creating a new specialized IT platform for supporting EEN-Russia in the search of partners for business, technological and research cooperation that should be linked to "Merlin"- the newly introduced information platform of the Enterprise Europe Network.
