A university (Russia) developed a technology for optimizing transport routes for multiple customer visits at equal intervals, taking into account the limited duration of the carrier's work shift. Technology improves transport logistics of enterprises. It is for the first time when a solution of the problem of optimizing delivery routes with given parameters has been obtained. The university is looking for partners for commercial, license agreements and research and technical cooperation.Description
It is logical that unaccounted for input data on the mode and rules of receiving the customer's cargo by the carrier, uncoordinated actions between components of logistics lead to higher costs as well as to an increase in the logistics cycle. The solution proposed by the University is a special way of clustering the set of customers (measured in thousands of points/items/objects) and a new algorithm for finding such a set of routes for each cluster in order to satisfy the customer requirements. These requirements include: 1) meeting of the delivery requirement at a given time ("window"); 2) minimizing the total length of routes and fuel consumption; 3) taking into account the schedule and specifics of the carrier's transports and staff. Conditions for solving this problem assume that: 1) each customer (consignee) has a different request for frequency of visit (e.g. once per shift or week, several times per shift, once per fortnight, or once per month, etc.), 2) multiple visits to each customer at equal time intervals in a given period are required. At the same time, the delivery person has a limited shift, i.e. vehicle drivers work limited shift lengths, each work shift has a beginning, an end and a certain number of regulated breaks and other characteristics. The technology can be used to automate route planning by companies operating with regular deliveries by all modes of transport (road, rail, air, UAV, water, robotics, foot, etc.) and/or to schedule for sales representatives and other customers. The algorithm enables efficient scheduling and route planning for delivery of a given number of units within a given period ("window"), including several times per shift, which will help deliver goods at a time set by the consignee, minimizing the overall length of the route. It is possible to develop and upgrade this technology of scheduling, taking into account on-line information about the state of traffic and jams on the roads, different load capacity of transport and other factors. The University is looking for partners - organizations interested in concluding contracts for the integration of the technology with their operations, including its individualized (customized) version, made to the customer's order, in order to conclude licensing contracts.Advantages and Innovations
Innovative aspect of the technology is that for the first time a solution to the problem of optimizing delivery routes with given characteristics (multiple customer visits at equal intervals, at repeated intervals, in a certain “window” and by a certain driver) has been obtained. The solution is based on an innovative multi-phase local search algorithm, which allows to find local optimums of high quality. The main advantages of the technology include: - Reduction of the vehicle fleet by at least 20%; - Decrease in transport costs by at least 20%; - Ease of technology integration with existing logistics planning systems; - Increased profits for all participants in the logistics chain.Stage of Development
